Dr. Hung Pham’s biography

Hung Pham was born in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1974. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from the National University of Civil Engineering, Hanoi, Vietnam in 1996. Right after his graduation, he attended the Master of Engineering program in Department of Civil Engineering. In 1996, he also accepted a teaching position in the Department of Geotechnical Engineering at this university. During that time, He was invited to give a number of lectures on soil mechanics, foundation designs and computer aided designs to many students and engineers in many provinces in Vietnam. In 2000, he was offered a scholarship to study M.Sc. program under the supervision of Professor Delwyn G. Fredlund at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Hung Pham completed his M.Sc. degree in 2001 and subsequently obtained his Ph.D. degree in 2005.

Dr. Hung Pham presently holds a Post-doctoral position at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Canada. His research program primarily focuses on volume change and water content change for unsaturated soils. His research work has been published in both journal and conference research papers. Dr. Hung Pham has been the recipient of numerous awards and scholarships such as:

·         1st group prize (group of 3 students) for the University of Civil Engineering in the “National computer programming competition for students” (national competition, Vietnam, 1993).

·         2nd prize in the "Student research competition" (National University of Civil Engineering competition, 1994).

·         1st group prize (group of 5 students) for the National University of Civil Engineering in the “Computer modeling competition” (for all northern universities, Vietnam, 1994).

·         3rd prize in the "Students and sciences" (Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam, 1995).

·         3rd prize in the “Technological Creation VIFOTEC” (national competition, Vietnam, 1995).

·         2nd prize in the "Student research competition" (National University of Civil Engineering competition, 1995).

·         Student Travel Awards (University of Saskatchewan, 2002 and 2004).

·         Wong-Fredlund Scholarships (University of Saskatchewan, 2003 and 2004).

·         Graduate Scholarship (Department of Civil Engineering, University of Saskatchewan, 2002 to 2004).

Besides his teaching and research experiences, Dr. Hung Pham has 5 years working experiences in industry. He has involved in more than 30 construction projects. He also has excellent experiences in computer programming. Dr. Hung Pham is a co-founder and a co-leader of the Computer Aided Design Group, which results a package of computer aided design software programs for Civil Engineering. Re: Looking for a cooperation between you/your companies/organizations and the National University of Civil Engineering, Vietnam

Dear sir/madam,

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Hung Pham, I completed my M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of Saskatchewan. Currently I am working as a Postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Saskatchewan, Canada. I am an assistant Professor (on leave) at the National University of Civil Engineering, Hanoi, Vietnam (NUCE). Also, I am the co-founder of the Computer Aided Design Group, NUCE. At NUCE, we have been involved in a number of international constructions/research projects.

Vietnamese economic has been increasing rapidly in the last 10 years (7-8% per years). Vietnam is one of the safest countries for investors and will joint WTO by the beginning of 2006. Civil and Environmental engineering are of the fastest growth industries in Vietnam. We are facing a great need of developing infrastructure and managing environmental issues. Foreign cooperation therefore would be the best solution for our country. I would like to write this letter to you to express my desire to build cooperation between you/your company with us (i.e., the Nation University of Civil Engineering of Vietnam). We are able to do the following work at the National University of Civil Engineering and its divisions:

·         Programming Civil Engineering software programs,

·         Offering architectural design for houses, buildings in both 2D and 3D using a number of computer software programs,

·         Analysing all levels of structural/geotechnical/environmental problems using a number of computer software programs,

·         Redrawing/drafting technical drawing.

·         Civil engineering research projects.
