Text files:

There are 36 text files containing item statistics from the experiment described in
"Cognitive Arithmetic Across Cultures", Campbell & Xue, JEP: General, June, 2001.
The 36 files represent 3 groups x 4 operations x 3 analyses (all trials, remember only,
non-remember only).

The names of files identify their contents...

AC = Asian Chinese, CC= Chinese Canadian, NC= non-Asian Canadian
_A = addition, _D = division, _M = multiplication, _S = subtraction
.ALL = all trials, MEM = remember trials, .PRO = procedural strategies (i.e., not remember trials)

SPSS files:

There is a SPSS data file (Q&Xitem.sav) that includes all the information from the 36 text files.
There is also a .sps file, which was used to create the .sav file and that includes the variable
names for the variables in the .sav file.

The variable names include a three-letter identifier and then the variable's contents...

1st letter identifies Group: A= Asian Chinese, C= Canadian Chinese, N = non-Asian Canadian
2nd letter identifies Operation: A = addition, D = division, M = multiplication, S = subtraction
3rd letter identifies Analysis: A = all trials, M = memory (i.e., remember), P = procedure trials

contents include...

_ITEM = item #
_ORD = operand order (0 = min left, 1 = max left)
_LOP = left operand
_ROP = right operand
_AN = correct answer
_ER = percentage of errors
_SP = percentage of spoiled RTs
_OL = percentage of outliers
_OK = number of ok RTs going in to mean
_MnRT = mean RT based on ok RTs
_MnSD = SD based on ok RTs
_MdRT = median RT based on ok + ol RTs
_N = total trials per item in this analysis (i.e., all, memory, or procedures)
_R = number of retrieval (memory) trials
_C = number of counting trials
_T = number of transform trials
