Geotextiles & Geomembranes - One of the three Best Papers in 2006 [2007]
For the paper titled “Shear strength of geomembrane-soil interface under unsaturated conditions” co-authored with my colleague Ian Fleming and my graduate student Manoj Jogi, now a Saskatchewan Highways employee. Invited to present this work at the GeoAmericas 2008 conference in Cancun, Mexico.
Nominated for USSU Teaching Excellence Award [2006]
Not eligible for award because of the 5-year rule, having won this award in 2002.

ASCE Outstanding Paper Award [2004]
This award is given by the American Society of Civil Engineers [ASCE] for the most outstanding paper amongst all the papers presented at the Offshore Technology Conference. I won this award for the following paper that I co-authored with my colleagues from Cambridge University and my industry sponsors:

USSU Teaching Excellence Award [2002]
This award is given by the University of Saskatchewan Students' Union [USSU] in recognition of providing a challenging and satisfying learning experience to the students of the University of Saskatchewan. I won this award for the 2002 offering of CE328.3 Introduction to Geotechnical Engineering.
Cambridge Nehru Scholarship [1989 to 1992]
This scholarship is given by the Nehru Trust for Cambridge University -- part of the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust -- for doctoral studies at the University of Cambridge. On an average, ten scholarships are given every year after reviewing several hundred thousand applications. The scholarship includes all the University fees and a monthly stipend.
Overseas Research Studentship [1989 to 1992]
The Overseas Research Studentship [ORS] was awarded by the Committee of Vice-chancellors and Principals [CVCP] of British universities for doctoral studies at University of Cambridge. This studentship pays the difference between the tuition fees of a foreign student and that of a British student.
GATE Scholarship [1987 to 1989]
The GATE scholarship for Masters study at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur was awarded by the University Grants Commission [UGC] of the Government of India. The scholarship included a monthly stipend of Rs.1000 for 21 months and was awarded on the basis of my performance at the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering [GATE].
James Berkley Gold Medal [1987]
I won the prestigious James Berkley Gold Medal, awarded by the University of Bombay, for securing first rank at B.Eng. [Civil Engineering] examination of University of Bombay. India's most celebrated civil engineer -- Bharat Ratna Sir Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya -- was also a recipient of this medal in the year 1883.
Kulpati K.M. Munshi Gold Medal [1987]
This medal was awarded to me by the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan for securing first rank amongst all the students of the Sardar Patel College of Engineering at B.Eng. [Civil Engineering] examination. The word Kulpati means Vice-chancellor.
Jadavpur University Alumni Association Prize [1986]
I won this prize after securing first rank amongst all the third year Civil Engineering students of the Sardar Patel College of Engineering. The prize consisted of a certificate and a cheque for Rs. 1000.
R C Ankhad Memorial Prize [1986]
This prize was given to me by the University of Bombay for securing highest marks in the subject of Steel Structures Design. The prize consisted of a certificate and a cheque for Rs.280. |
