Art

This portion of the site will be dedicated to various artists... not anyone famous tho... not yet at least. Because most famous art annoys the hell out of me. The artwork will be from either myself, or from others whom inspire or intrigue me. If you are an artist and have some work you'd like to contribute to this collection then send me an e-mail, I'd like to see it. Especially the animé!

[Pre-University]

This was a picture off of a package of Tor Fantasy lead figurines... yes, the red eye is lame and the technique poor... cut me some slack, I was only 14! Inspired by Pirotessa from the Record of Lodoss War... Yes, I know, she's stacked beyond belief... What can I say? I was in High School and had no idea how grossly out of proportion her breasts were when I drew them. Shameless. This was actually supposed to be an image inspired by one of Terry Brooks Shannara novels... But it turned out that I couldn't create the image seen by my mind's eye so I left the duelling witches out of it. The scan doesn't do the image justice, the paint used for the flames is actually very thick and textured... that's what makes it interesting. Which would explain why this digital version is so boring. A portrait of Jeff Martin from The Tea Party. This was my first attempt at painting a person and I think it turned out quite well... You can tell I began to lose interest tho... His neck and chain look pretty awful. A self-portrait of sorts... my teacher docked marks due to a lack of explanation of the various objects in the picture. Seems she forgot that a self-portrait was meant to be interpreted by the viewer... a blatant explanation offers no insight on the artist. There is little to no depth in the image... that disappoints me, t'was supposed to look like a vast desert. Believe it or not, this painting was based on a photograph of an actual two-headed snake. There are some serious flaws in my rendering of the image though. Like the lack of depth in the eyes and the lack of detail in the tree branch and small scales. A couple friends of mine, Ryan and Jasmine were an inspiration to me, they created comic-book worlds in their minds and on paper. This drawing was a character I created... there was even a story to go along with Drenn at one time, not that I remember it though. T'was as cliché as his hair. This was a character design I came up with when I really got into coding again and was determined to create an RPG. I soon realized how much work it would take to create an RPG so I gave up on the concept side and stuck to coding. The proportions are so awful it pains me just to look at it. The fabric of the cloak looks great, too bad her face and eye look so awful... neh, whatever.

[First Year] : In class... not for class.

The perspective of her face is off, and like most of my pictures there is no background for her to be sitting on... use your imagination. ;) The girl with the feather... She tends to show up more often then any of my other characters, yet each time she appears different than the last. I am unsatisfied with the face and mostly the eyes... The hatching worked better than I expected tho'. Once again you can see the Square Soft influence... he is slightly reminiscient of Magus, who happens to be one of my favorite game characters. Some chick in armor... Once again the eyes don't look as I wish they did. One would think that after enough mistakes, I'd learn to start with pencil and ink it later. This is my first attempt at using conté pencils which turned out to be much softer than originally anticipated. The fabric of the cloak is awful... If I could erase it I would. Not much to say about this one... like all of the others, there are some anatomical problems with it... basically from the waist down.

[First Year] : Art 112.6 Class

This section should actually have many more pictures in it... alas, I've given most of my work from that class to Chantelle, although I did keep most of the peices that I really liked. Another reason I haven't posted more pictures in this section is because most of my work is 2-4 times larger than my scanner bed. The last two in this section took me about an hour and a half to scan and peice back together.
I really like the combination of the conté and the textured Ingres paper... I either had to cut the top of the picture off or settle for not scanning the whole thing. Seeing as this was supposed to be one of my portfolio peices I decided to leave the picture in it's original state. It's not entirely obvious, but this was a still-life with apples... those shiny blobs are apples, the pitcher was obvious though. Mmmm.... white conté on black paper is wonderful to work with, it makes you pay attention to light rather than shadow. The picture was scanned in sections I aligned it as best I could. Yes, that strapping young man is none other than myself... back when I still had long hair at least. I was drawing my reflection in the mirror... there was a light source nearly above me, so the shadow from my glasses was cast down on my cheeks... it looks kinda funny. I made the mistake of rolling down my sleeves while I was working on the hair and ended up smudging the neck and chin.

[First Year] : Art 112.6 Sketch Book

Her right leg (the one on the left) bothers me to no end, other than that I really like it... especially the pose. This was one of the first I did after getting a copy of " How to Draw Manga, Volume 1"... I absolutely love this one... she's sooo cute. Simply colouring the eyes gave it a neat look too. I was supposed to be designing a tattoo for Joi while I was doing this one... ^_^ She is such a cutie! ^_^ I loved the outcome of the pencil drawing so much that I decided to do another with a charcoal pencil... Too bad I made her so busty, that's not how she was supposed to look... C'est terrible!. Her breasts are awfully lop-sided as well. That is a really poor scan... I should have redone it, she *should* be wearing a pair of knee-length close-fitting shorts but they were lost in the scan. Anyway, the proprtions look good to me... I like the pose. I have no idea why she is so squinty... I don't recall exactly what my intentions were there. Hrmmm... does the pose look familiar? I tend to use similar poses a lot of the time.

[Second Year] : Computer Science 250 Envelope Art

This drawing is on the hand-in envelope of a Computer Science assignment... It is so much easier to figure out which assignment is yours if it has a cool picture on it like this one. No more searching through dozens of assignments... Another assignment cover that I thought turned out really well... I prefer the characters on the sides to the one in the middle... maybe it's the awful hair.

[Second Year] : In class... not for class.

Perhaps I should have been paying attention in Math 266 instead of drawing this... neh. This is another sketch I adore... she is once again too small, with too little detail, but perhaps that's where some of the allure is created. This is the picture in the upper-left corner of the page as well. Just some elf chick wearing shredded ragged clothing... sort of mummy-like, although that was not my intent. This is somewhat of a San (from Princess Mononoke) rip-off... I'd imagine that's where the inspiration came from for it, never even occurred to me while I was drawing it.

[Third Year] : In class, at work, wherever...

Heeee! I love Mimiru... ^_^ She's a cutie from .hack//SIGN if you didn't know... Inspired by a cute little geek from Oh My Goddess! - The Movie, can't remember her name at the moment though Kawaii! Chunk-style anime most likely influenced by the couple episodes of Pita Ten I saw.

[Pixel Art]

If you were ever a hardcore SNES RPG fan then some of these sprites may look familiar... Seiken Densetsu 3 (Secret of Mana 3) has proven to be an enormous influence on my pixel art and it's quite evident in some of the sprites... not in all of them though.
