The Saskatoon Youth Longitudinal Study (SYLS) was
designed
to begin to answer these types of questions. More importantly, however, it
provides Saskatchewan youth with an opportunity to participate in the
development of scientific knowledge that has important implications for intervention and prevention programs. It is the only study of its kind in Saskatchewan. Indeed, much of the research upon which intervention and prevention programs are developed tends to be conducted in larger, metropolitan centres with the majority of these being located in the United States. The SYLS will provide a basis of local knowledge that will be of interest to parents, teachers, guidance counsellors and, hopefully, to youth themselves as they move through an important developmental stage of life.
