Short Bio

Hello there, this is Masud Rahman. I have been pursuing my PhD in Computer Science/Software Engineering at University of Saskatchewan, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Chanchal Roy. My area of interest is software change automation. In particular, I am interested in automated query reformulation/suggestion for concept/feature/bug localization and automated support for code review activities. I develop tools and techniques for software change automation where I generally apply Information Retrieval (IR), Machine Learning (ML) and Mining Software Repositories (MSR). I mine mostly Stack Overflow, GitHub, BugZilla, JIRA and various other software repositories. Recently, I am discovering the scope of Big Data in the context of software change automation. I have been awarded Geddes Award 2017 (PhD Student of the Year), NSERC Industry Engage Grant 2016, and Saskatchewan Innovation & Opportunity Scholarship 2017 for the outstanding academic and research excellence in the PhD program. I got a bunch of research projects and tools running. I have been collaborating with several renowned researchers across the world, and you are cordially welcome to contribute there.

I completed my Master's in Computer Science/Software Engineering from University of Saskatchewan on August 2014 under the same supervisor. In my thesis, I propose a context-aware and IDE-based recommendation system that can assist the software developers in effectively dealing with programming errors and exceptions. I received a note of exceptional quality for the thesis. My thesis was nominated for Best Thesis Award 2014, and I was nominated for Best Graduate Student Award 2014. I was awarded International Dean's Scholarship for PhD for academic and research excellence in the MSc program.

I completed my undergrad in Computer Science and Engineering in the year 2009 from Khulna University, Bangladesh. I received President Gold Medal for the highest academic excellence (CGPA: 3.91/4.00) in the B.Sc level. Before that I completed my S.S.C and H.S.C from Jhenidah Cadet College, one of the most reputed and cherished institutions of Bangladesh, operated by Bangladesh Army.

After B.Sc, I joined a US-based software company --NOCHALLENGE TECHNOLOGY LLC-- as a software developer where I led the dot NET development team. With some solid professional experience, I later joined Khulna University as a full time Lecturer at Computer Science and Engineering department. Currently, I am on study leave.
