Phani Adapa

Phani is a certified Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geo-Scientists of Saskatchewan and currently working as the Assistant Director, Global Institute for Water Security (GIWS), University of Saskatchewan (UofS).  In his current capacity, he is responsible to assist Prof. Howard Wheater, Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Water Security and Director GIWS for enhancement of the solid foundation in water-related research taking place at the UofS in order to enrich, expand, and optimize the institution’s profile as an international leader in water security.  Consequently, he is responsible for the development of an integrated network of regional, national and international research activities for the UofS to leverage existing funding secured through the CERC in Water Security and other grants and contracts across campus. In addition, he works collaboratively as well as independently, interacting with and managing the needs of multiple stakeholders ranging from students (undergraduate and graduate) and faculty, to representatives of international agencies, various levels of government, industry partners, and community organizations or groups, located both on and off campus.

Previously, he was employed with the College of Engineering, University of Saskatchewan at the capacity of the Director of Research and International Relations responsible to enhance research intensiveness of the College of Engineering through development of new partnerships and facilitation of existing collaborations with internal and external stakeholders, industry partners, provincial, federal and international agencies and institutes for pursuing funding opportunities that could support recruitment of Highly Qualified Personnel, facilitate visits of internal and external faculty members, and development of new programs to support the College of Engineering research enterprise.

Phani holds Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D. - 2011) degree in Chemical and Biological Engineering (Agricultural Engineering), University of Saskatchewan; Master of Science (M.Sc. - 2001) in Mechanical Engineering, University of Saskatchewan; and Bachelor of Engineering (B.E. - 1998) in Mechanical Engineering, Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University, India.

As a part of his professional development, Phani has published 30 refereed journal articles, three book chapters and delivered 29 conference proceedings/ presentations.  He has been awarded the 2009 George Ira Hanson Post-Graduate Award for Energy Research.  Also, the Canadian Society for Bioengineers have recognized Phani's research contributions and awarded him with their Ph.D. thesis award for 2012.
