Industry Collaboration

The Federal Government has been encouraging universities across Canada to collaborate more and more with industries for development and transfer of technology of economic benefit to Canada.  Therefore, many options are available to multiply industry research investment in universities through various funding opportunities with the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada and MITACS, which range from having funding for basic and applied research, to technology transfer activities.

Some of the direct benefits to industry partners are:

  1. Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax incentive program.  SR&ED program is available to any business operating and carrying out R&D in Canada;
  2. Initiate new and sustain existing industry collaborations of mutual benefit;
  3. To test, scale-up, commercialize and transfer technologies to industries;
  4. Provide first-hand experience to researchers and students in actual industry set-up, and train personnel of relevance to industries; and

Develop economic and training opportunities through industry collaborations.
