This is a small flower vase made from diamond willow finished with oil. Unlike most of my carvings which are sanded to 400 grit, the sapwood (light colored wood) was finished only by scraping. This was done, in part because the bark came off the wood very easily leaving only small amounts of inner bark. I worked on this piece while attending a church retreat held in a monastery. I didn't want to impose on the monks by creating a lot of dust. However, when I got home, I decided to leave it as done with my knife as a scraper. The vase is about 5" high and 2" in diameter.
