| Hi there! Dogs are thought to be among the first domesticated animals. Therefore, the history of dog breeding (or, to be more precise, the history of common man-dog coexistence on reciprocal basis) follows the history of the humankind as a whole. Among the most ancient dogs known to be owned by men in both historic and pre-historic times are the sighthounds, hunting dogs which hunt more by sight rather than by scent. The way they hunt is to chase the prey, reach it, and catch it. The group of the sighthounds includes many breeds (the Borzoi, the Greyhound, the Saluky, the Tazy, the Pharaoh's Hound, the Afgan hound, the Irish Wolfhound, the Deerhound, the Taigan and many others. Their origins, however, are not quite clear in most cases. Back in Kirgizia I used to consequently own two Taigans. You'll find some photos and descriptions of Taigans by following the link. Also, there is an official site of the Taigan breeding club in Kirgizia, which also contains much of very interesting information. I'd recommend you see the description of the hunting and breeding techniques. |
