An emerging research area within the group is the synthesis of new conjugated organic materials. We are currently investigating the synthesis of both small molecule chromophores and conjugated polymers with advantageous optical properties, such as high extinction coefficients and narrow bandgaps. Students working in this area will not focus solely on synthetic organic chemistry, but will also gain experience in absorption and emission spectroscopy, electrochemistry, density functional theory and the fabrication and testing of either bulk heterojunction or dye sensitized solar cells. They will take their project all the way from starting materials to prototype devices!

More information on these projects will be posted in the near future!
