Control of Outbreaks
Do not bring horses into areas where Vesicular Stomatitis has occurred

Sanitation Procedures
  • Use aggressive sanitation of facilities, fomites, and transport equipment
  • Use registered disinfectants
    • Follow label directions for concentration and contact time
    • Also consider organic load and temperature
      • Removal of organic matter prior to sanitation will improve efficacy of the disinfectant
Quarantine measures
  • Separate infected animals from healthy animals
Do not move animals from an area affected with Vesicular Stomatitis for at least 30 days after the last lesion has healed
Implement insect control measures
  • Eliminate or reduce breeding areas for insects
  • Use insecticides on animals
